Building, Creating, and Figuring It Out as I Go

Building, Creating, and Figuring It Out as I Go

If you had told me a year ago that I’d be running my own wine brand, growing a photography business, and juggling all the unexpected pieces of being a small business owner, I probably would’ve laughed (and then poured another glass of wine). But here I am—knee-deep in it, learning every day, and loving the chaos.

Winemaking: The Adventure Continues

Launching Broken Glass has been equal parts thrilling and terrifying. My first wine, the 2023 'Everybody Wins' Pinot Noir, is nearly ready to be shared with the world, and it still feels surreal. I’ve spent the past few months tasting, blending, finalizing packaging, and figuring out all the little (but crucial) details—things like label approvals, logistics, and how to actually get wine into people’s hands. Turns out, making the wine is only half the battle.

Beyond the logistics, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want Broken Glass to stand for. This brand isn’t about chasing perfection or prestige; it’s about curiosity, community, and making wine feel fun and accessible. That mindset has helped quiet the imposter syndrome that inevitably creeps in—because the truth is, I’m still learning, and that’s part of the story.

Photography: Capturing Moments and Growing a Brand

In between all things wine, my photography business has been keeping me busy in the best way. From dreamy family sessions to destination shoots, I’ve been lucky to document some truly special moments. I’ve also been focused on growing my social media presence and refining my brand, which, let’s be honest, is a full-time job in itself.

Balancing photography with wine has been an exercise in time management (and caffeine consumption), but I love that these two worlds complement each other. Both are about storytelling—whether it’s through a bottle shared with friends or a film photo that freezes a moment in time.

The Reality of Being a Small Business Owner

Running a business (or two) means wearing a lot of hats. One day I’m designing labels and managing invoices, the next I’m knee-deep in email marketing, researching compliance laws, or troubleshooting a website issue. There’s no playbook, which is both freeing and overwhelming.

But the best part? The people. Whether it’s connecting with winemakers, collaborating with clients, or sharing what I’m building with friends and supporters, this journey is rooted in relationships. That’s what keeps me going when the to-do list feels never-ending.

What’s Next?

For Broken Glass, the big focus is getting the 2023 'Everybody Wins' Pinot Noir into the world—finalizing sales channels, launching the website, and making sure it lands in the right hands (yours!). I’m also excited to keep building out my wine club, sharing the stories behind the bottles, and thinking about what wine will come next.

If you’ve been following along, supporting, cheering from the sidelines—thank you. It means the world. Here’s to building, learning, and embracing the adventure.
