What Is Natural Wine (and Why Is Everyone Talking About It?)

“Natural wine” is everywhere right now.

On menus. On Instagram. At dinner parties where someone casually drops, “It’s low-intervention.”

But what does that actually mean?

And more importantly, should you care?

What Is Natural Wine?

At its core, natural wine is about minimal intervention.

That means:

  • Grapes are often farmed organically or biodynamically
  • Fermentation happens with native yeast
  • Few (or no) additives
  • No fining or filtering

It’s wine made as close to its natural state as possible.

Why People Love It

  1. It Feels More Alive
Natural wines can be vibrant, unpredictable, and expressive.
  2. It Aligns With Values
Sustainability, transparency, and craftsmanship matter more than ever.
  3. It’s Cultural
Natural wine is tied to art, music, food, and creative communities.

Why People Don’t

Let’s be honest - natural wine isn’t always an instant love.

  • It can taste different (funky, sour, earthy)
  • It’s less consistent
  • It sometimes gets overhyped

And that’s okay.

The Broken Glass Hot Take:

Natural wine isn’t “better.” It’s just different.

If traditional wine is polished and predictable, natural wine is raw and expressive.

Both have a place.

The fun is figuring out what you actually enjoy.

As for us? Our wine is made from mostly organic or sustainably farmed grapes, fermented with native yeast, and is unfined and unfiltered. We add a little bit of sulfur to ensure freshness, and that's it!
